In 2010, the founders (Ludovic LeMoan and Christophe Fourtet) started with the crazy idea to create a global, low power, cost-efficient network, giving voice to the physical world.
8 years later, they can be proud to see how far they have arrived and excited for the things to come.
Dara Khosrowshahi (I had to check the spelling), the boss of Uber, said: “it took 10 years for Uber to become an overnight success”. Sigfox is 2 years away and on track to hit the 10 years anniversary with a big bang!
2018 has seen so many amazing achievements.
First, some major milestones:
60 countries sign up to deploy a national Sigfox network. Of those, 21 countries (+1, as Hong Kong just been completed) are already covered nationwide, overal covering 5 million km2 and 1 billion people. Let me add to this an ecosystem of 10,000 partners that are either developping and selling solutions or/& evangelising the world on the benefits of IoT.
Second, some strong commitments received from major big industrial players, among them:
Third, some incredible marketing activities to get the name out there. In short:
- Sigfox was mentioned in 43,900 articles in press media
- Sigfox attended 128 events all over the world and organised 1 major one exceeding all expectations: Sigfox Connect.
Fourth, an exciting roadmap of complementary network coverage solutions from local to remote to satellite.
- The Micro Base Station, shipping from January 2019
“plug&play” Sigfox network expansion in areas such as deep indoor or outdoor remote customer locations.
- Sigfox revolutionizes asset tracking with Bubbles
a low cost beaconing solution enabling proximity detection from less than one meter to a hundred meters, improving the accuracy of the device’s location.
- Sigfox teamed up with Eutelsat to connect its IoT devices via low orbit satellite, starting trial in 2019 with a commercial launch planned for 2020.
Low orbit Satellite complementary coverage to Sigfox terrestrial coverage is another revolution starting trials in 2019. Why is it that important ? Just imagine having the same Sigfox device connecting directly to satellite using same protocol, same Sigfox backend, coupled with a multi-zone device. This means you can always connect wherever you are in the world. For Australia, in asset tracking, you will always be able to geolocate your assets via simple low cost device & connectivity, even in the middle of nowhere, be it the lake Eyre or the Simpson desert.
2018 is gone, now is the time to join the IoT revolution in 2019
Thinxtra is empowering the Internet of Things in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong by operating the world-leading Sigfox LPWA network as well as enabling a full eco-system of IoT solutions and services partners to connect the non-connected, to increase productivity, to accelerate decision making, to improve quality of service and quality of life, and to find more economical solutions to common problems.
