Thinxtra Launches First Mobile and Solar Powered Sigfox Base Station

Australia’s agriculture and mining industries are among those set to benefit from the launch of Thinxtra’s solar powered Sigfox base station. The base station provides a Sigfox coverage radius of up to 50km, and can be deployed to connect and control assets such as farming and mining equipment at virtually any location in a matter of hours.

The first mobile and solar powered Sigfox base station was deployed at the Surat Basin in Queensland on 06/12/2017 to track earth moving equipment in the upstream gas industry.

Thinxtra VP Network Deployment, Sam Sharief said: “We are excited to launch a solar powered Sigfox base station that gives customers fast and easy access to a long range, low power, low cost, reliable and secure connection for their devices wherever they are.

This is a win for businesses operating in areas with limited access to network coverage, and for those looking to benefit from connected asset tracking and management in rural and remote areas that lack established infrastructure.”

The Thinxtra mobile solar base station has many unique benefits:

  • It is fully retractable, easy to carry where required and can be operating within 2′ as it is already commissioned by the Network Operation Centre.
  • When fully deployed, it can reach a height of eight meters for a maximum coverage of up to 50km.
  • The unit works autonomously on batteries for up to 4 days without sun.
  • It is ideally installed on a high point to extend the coverage as far as possible.

It has the same features as the Sigfox mini base station.
